The RedEye Publication Hosts its “i-Ball” Industry Event

CHALLENGE When the Chicago Tribune’s RedEye newspaper chose a “LIVE WIRED” theme for their annual “i-Ball” event, they knew it would take some special finesse to deliver the technology and audiovisual experience they imagined.

SOLUTION The RedEye could think of no better place to host their event than in Show Department’s studio facility, Resolution Digital Studios. With technology and production at its core, the space was ideal for hosting more than 1,000 bar and club owners, professionals in the music trade, sponsors, advertisers, and other influential industry people.

The main stage was converted into a club atmosphere. Two 12'x36' projection screens were flown at each end of the room and a circular 16' diameter screen was suspended at the center of the room. An 8'x24' screen at the front of the stage was flown during band performances, then lowered between sets to conceal the stage. A 9'x12' Barco i-Lite LED wall flanked the stage. All screens displayed a combination of live feeds, graphics, and sponsor logos. The catwalk was used to ring the room with projectors. The second floor apartment served as a private VIP Lounge offering guests an opportunity to slip away from the action on the main stage.
