Ron Howard

Film Achievement Award Event

CHALLENGE The Chicago International Film Festival had big plans for their Summer Gala. They hosted an event to honor acclaimed actor, producer, director, and Academy Award®-winning filmmaker, Ron Howard. In recognition of an outstanding career that has spanned more than 50 years, they presented Mr. Howard with the distinguished Silver Hugo Career Achievement Award.

SOLUTION It was truly a red carpet night! Show Department staged the event at Chicago’s Museum of Science & Industry. The evening festivities were hosted by award-winning television journalist Bill Kurtis, with appearances by Kevin James, Winona Ryder, Jennifer Connelly, Vince Vaughn, and Paul Bettany.

Show Department’s team handled the visual content for the presenters, all live audio support, lighting design, venue scenic design, event technical direction, and stage management.

The night was filled with memories from some of Ron Howard’s most noted works, including his role as Opie on the “The Andy Griffith Show”, his role as Richie on “Happy Days”, as well as some of Hollywood’s most memorable films: Cocoon, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, and Backdraft.
